Press Release on the Negotiation of the 2021 Base Pay

Health Services Workers’ Union

For Immediate Release

It is a conspicuous fact that members of the Health Services Workers’ Union and workers in general are going through untoward hardship stemming from the advent of COVID-19. To exacerbate the issue, the government has also imposed new taxes and increased the rate of some existing ones.

In all these, the base pay has still not seen any increase leading to the fall in real income of our members since prices of goods and services keep increasing at an increasing rate. Amid all these frustrations, our members have remained very patient, committed to their jobs and continue to sacrifice to save the lives of others.

We are by this medium also entreating members to disregard any fallacious information that the HSWU and the TUC have agreed that the base pay is not increased nor to engage government on base pay negotiations.

The leadership deems it prudent to draw the mind of government to the fact that the inexorable patience of the members of the Health Services Workers’ Union is dying out considering the rising agitations. We are therefore calling on the government to convene a Public Sector Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC) Meeting as soon as possible to commence the negotiations.

We are also pleading with our cherished members to calm down as we engage the government through the Public Sector Joint Standing Negotiation Committee and assure members that the leadership will get back to them on the next step.
